Two Poems by Aldo Quagliotti
Salty eyelids
Salty eyelidsweighted by some music,
blasted by your guts -
close on over-stretched lips
life happens all at once
yet the jasmines take their time
to greet your nosey gaze
I steal another moment
blink twice to take you in
bit more, triangular, lost in my prophecies
the hell I care
about your skin
ageing the more you laugh
dislikes of ancient kingdoms
I sip this mystery as it flashes
see the silhouette way down the road
spelling of skin, moss still muffled
in the factory of your lips
Stay with me
in the promise carried by the window
we won't have time to lapse
will loop death in once we're done
humming our summer song
Now get up
My aria is full of strobe lightsorange pressé
my choreography a vibrato
lighting a candle
as if tomorrow could ever be
faster than my yesterdays
My hands bathe in this silence
as the mouth climbs up the teeth
sudden, full of grip
and press this hope against the jugular
I wasn’t made for prosaic seasons
I left a note in my mother’s womb
in soprano colours,
back soon, I guess
I’m still dreaming of a muffled wind
to parlay the boom into a bookmark
letting go of the stop signs
so I can lick the sweetness of this moment
as it resigns
